Kim Johnston

Last summer Beach Week was fortunate to have the professional expertise of Kim Johnston. We'd wanted her to "come on board" for three years, but she'd previously been unavailable due to other professional obligations at the national level in our Association. She proved absolutely dynamic!

Kim is the current President of the entire National Association for College Admission Counseling, a professional association with over 10,000 College and High School members. In addition, she has held several offices within the New England Association for College Admission Counseling. In 2001 she was awarded the NEACA Counselor of the Year in Maine. She is a highly acclaimed Keynoter and Presenter at numerous professional associations.

She holds degrees from the University of Dallas and University of Maine. Go Black Bears! Before returning home to Maine for graduate school, she taught Theater Arts and English in TX for 6 years. At MacArthur High School she directed theater productions and coached the speech and debate team, including a National Forensics League Humorous Interpretation national champion.

In her spare time Kim enjoys hosting parties, attending movies and the theater, reading, and travel. Her Beach Week specialty is Italian pizza from scratch. Yum!

Carol Kercheval

Carol Kercheval holds a B.A. in History from King College and a M.S. in Guidance and Counseling from Longwood University .  She is a former Social Studies teacher in public schools and later served as Director of Admissions at the largest woman’s educational institution in the United States , Meredith College .  Presently, Carol is a Higher Education Consultant to the Southern Regional Office of the College Board which is headquartered in Atlanta .  She brings over 15 years of valuable experience in assisting families with their college admission process.

Two years ago, Carol came highly recommended by several seasoned admission colleagues as the perfect professional to assist with Critical Reading preparation.  We were indeed fortunate that her schedule was open to accommodate Beach Week 2006.  Immediately she clicked with our students and proved a most efficient and effective teacher.  Carol will rejoin us next summer.  Yea!

Carol loves to bake scrumptious desserts and eat.  Seafood and Italian are two of her favorite types of food.  She can afford this luxury because there is not an ounce of fat on her “lean, mean, muscle machine”!  Carol’s daily physical-fitness regiment includes weight lifting, bicycle riding, and walking.  She is also an accomplished swimmer and a huge sports fan.  Favorite teams ate GA Tech (Go girl!), VA Tech, the Redskins and the Colts.

Until her spouse’s recent retirement as a Presbyterian minister Carol had a second full-time mission as the wife of a pastor.  Currently they are renovating their home in VA where Carol plans to display pottery that she has collected from throughout the world.
